ODOIPORIKON means a constant journey, discovering a world of five senses flooded with light.

Tzeli Hadjidimitriou, the well-known photographer and travel writer, invites you on a Photography Odoiporikon. This journey takes you through the island of Lesvos and on a personal artistic, spiritual journal as well. The relationship of the soul and the light will reflect in your photographs.

This workshop is for women who have already chosen Eressos as the place for their vacation and also want to explore something more than the beach; willing to immerse themselves in the real life of Lesvos, getting to know the people, the traditions, the history, the culture and the nature of the beloved place through the lens of a camera. Rather than being a laboratory for learning the latest techniques in digital photography, participants will try to capture the atmosphere of a foreign country. We’ll learn how to “see” and how to compose the image in our minds, before taking the picture, so any camera will do. In other words, we will get to know a place by learning how to capture and see the light on a face, a landscape or an object, and connect this place with ourselves through photography. This workshop is for amateur photographers but also for those who want to have their knowledge about photography challenged and renewed by another point of view. Digital and film cameras are equally welcome.

Each workshop differs – depending on the weather conditions, daily reality of the places to be visited and, above all, on our photographic impulse of the moment.

Tzeli Hadjidimitriou is also the author of a 950 page travel guide to Lesvos in Greek and of the English LGBT guide, “A girl’s guide to Lesvos”

Itinerary

True creativity arises from a union with the divine, with the mystical and the unknowable. Technique, expertise and knowledge are tools; the key is to abandon oneself to the energy that fuels the birth of all things.

Two day workshop

1st day  10.00 -13.00 Introduction to Travel Photography

How we can translate our sentiments into photographic images. Our priority is to learn how the camera sees, to start recognizing the light, discover the endless possibilities of synthesis and finally learn how to really enjoy by taking pictures, making the camera our best friend in the happy, or less happy moments in our lives.

18.00-20.00 We meet at the port of Skala and walk up the hill of Vigla to photograph the sunset and the beginning of night over the sea.

2nd day   09.00 We leave for Vatousa.
On the way we focus on  open skies, nature and macro photography, also using the details to compose less predictable images. In Vatousa we put in practice everything we have learnt over the previous days, choosing the subject that we most want to photograph from amongst portraits, architecture, details, local life, interior spaces. Our principal intention is to express our feelings at that moment using the light and the composition.

We end our workshop in the traditional café of Vatousa, where we will project our photographs, discuss them, and celebrate our meeting with a tasty ouzo with meze.

At the end of the Odoiporikon, every participant receives a souvenir certificate, as a reminder of her of the photographic journey.
